Immediate Dentures
Immediate dentures mean you don’t have to go a day without your smile
Nova Denture Center provides a full range of denture services.
Before you undergo tooth extractions, we can fabricate immediate dentures-also known as surgical dentures or same day dentures-for you to wear immediately after surgery. Patients at Nova Denture Center love this option because it means they can get back to smiling with confidence and they don’t have to go without their teeth while they wait for extraction sites to heal. Before the teeth are extracted, we work with your dentist to create the optimal immediate dentures, designed to be worn right after surgery. Your same day dentures can be worn while your extraction sites heal, a process that can take up to six months. Once the tissues have healed sufficiently, most patients switch out their immediate dentures with a permanent option.
Post Tooth Extraction Instructions & Care
Your immediate dentures will be placed right after your teeth are extracted. 24 hours after extraction, they should be removed and cleaned with a denture cleaner. It’s important not to remove them sooner than this, as your gums could swell more and you’ll be unable to fit the dentures back in.
Warm salt water rinses should be used to promote healing. Some discomfort and swelling is to be expected, but your dentist or denturist will offer helpful advice for managing this. Continue taking any prescribed medication unless otherwise directed, and follow a high calorie, soft foods diet.
One to six weeks after your extractions, the sites will have healed enough to allow for a temporary liner to be placed known as a tissue conditioner. Then, when the tissue is completely healed (usually between six months to one year) a permanent denture reline can be done.

FAQ
Common Questions About Dentures
Are immediate dentures permanent?
In some cases, patients will continue to wear their same day dentures even once their extraction sites are completely healed. However, most patients opt for switching to permanent dentures and are encouraged to do so for their benefit.
How long do you keep immediate dentures in?
You will be given specific instructions for your case, but most patients are asked to keep their immediate dentures in for 24-48 hours post-extraction. At your post-extraction appointment, your dentist or denturist can remove them to check for healing and assess the fit.
It’s especially important to wear your immediate dentures regularly for the first few weeks, only removing them for cleaning.
How much do same day dentures cost?
Immediate dentures are slightly different for each patient, which means their cost will be too. The best way to find out what your same day dentures could cost is to book a free, no-obligation consultation with us.
Can you eat with same day dentures?
Eating with same day dentures can be challenging at first as you adjust to them. Most patients prefer to eat soft foods at first, then progress into firmer foods, but cutting it into smaller bites.
Can I have teeth extracted and get dentures on the same day?
Like their name suggests, same day dentures do make it possible to get dentures the same day you have your teeth extracted. In fact, this is an option for about 95% of patients, as long as proper moulds and jaw measurements can be taken.
